P28APiston SingleCategory estimate

The Piper Warrior is the four-seat piston single of the PA-28 family with the tapered wing, built in two series: the PA-28-151 (Lycoming O-320-E3D, 150 hp, 1974 to 1977) and the PA-28-161, sold as Warrior II and Warrior III (Lycoming O-320-D3G, 160 hp, from 1977 on).

Frequently asked questions about the cost

How much does it cost to operate the Piper Warrior per hour?

Jet Tracker estimate: about US$ 345 per flight hour at 200 h/year, of which US$ 255 per hour is variable cost (fuel, engine program, maintenance reserves, fees) plus US$ 18,000 per year of fixed cost (crew, hangar, insurance, training).

How much does it cost per year to keep the Piper Warrior flying 200 hours?

About US$ 69,040 per year (roughly R$ 380,963 at today's exchange rate), of which 74% is variable cost (depends on hours flown) and 26% is fixed cost (exists even with the aircraft parked).

How much fuel does the Piper Warrior burn per hour, in cost?

About US$ 109 per flight hour, at the US$ 6.80 per gallon used in this simulation (reference price, not today's quote). Fuel is usually the largest variable cost item.

What is the difference between variable and fixed cost?

Variable cost only exists when the aircraft flies: fuel, engine program, hourly maintenance reserves and landing fees. Fixed cost exists even with the aircraft in the hangar: crew, hangarage, insurance, training and subscriptions. That is why total cost per hour falls the more hours per year the aircraft flies.
